1. What inspired you to establish a fashion college, and how does it align with your personal journey in the fashion industry?
Establishing a fashion college in Chitwan was inspired by the need for a robust platform in the city that offers integrated skills and professional education. After years in the fashion industry, I saw a significant gap in training opportunities for aspiring designers in Chitwan. This college embodies my commitment to nurturing local talent, merging my personal experiences with a vision to strengthen and innovate our fashion community and foster the next generation of fashion innovators.
2. Can you share some success stories of students who have graduated from your college and made a mark in the fashion world?
Certainly! One notable success story is a graduate who launched her own luxury brand in Chitwan, which has gained considerable attention for its innovative designs. Another alumnus is making strides as an assistant designer in a major mass-market manufacturing company, while several others have successfully started their own businesses locally. These achievements highlight the talent and dedication of our students and the high quality of education we provide.
3. How do you envision the future of the fashion industry in Nepal, and what steps are you taking to contribute to that vision?
I envision a future for Nepalese fashion that is both sustainable and vibrant, merging tradition with modernity. We are integrating eco-friendly practices into our curriculum and collaborating with local artisans to innovate and modernize traditional craftsmanship. These initiatives aim to establish a distinctive fashion identity for Nepal that can stand out on the global stage.
4. What personal experiences from your fashion career have significantly influenced your approach to teaching and mentoring students?
My work as a costume designer and stylist in the film industry has greatly influenced my approach. This experience taught me the importance of balancing creativity with technical expertise. I now emphasize practical, hands-on education in my teaching, preparing students not only as designers but as well-rounded professionals capable of meeting the industry's demands.
5. What legacy do you hope to leave behind through your work in fashion design and education in Nepal?
I hope to leave a legacy of empowerment and innovation, remembered as someone who created opportunities for emerging talents and contributed to the growth of Nepal's fashion industry. By instilling strong ethics, creativity, and technical skills in my students, I aim to nurture leaders who will drive positive change and elevate Nepal's fashion scene globally.
6. How do you encourage creativity and individuality in your students while ensuring they have a strong foundation in technical skills?
Encouraging creativity begins with fostering an environment where students feel free to express themselves and experiment. We provide diverse projects and assignments that challenge their creative thinking while ensuring they receive rigorous training in essential technical skills such as pattern making, sewing, and digital design. This balanced approach helps students develop their unique styles and prepares them for success in the fashion industry.
